Sydney is home to the James Lance GlaxoSmithKline Medicines Research Unit, a dedicated Clinical Pharmacology Unit. It is one of only two phase I clinical trial facilities that GSK supports world wide. This unit performs phase I clinical trials not only for GSK, but also for outside clients including global leading pharmaceutical companies.

Australian Proteome Analysis Facility (APAF)
APAF is a premier protein discovery research/service facility, working to discover and purify novel biomarkers related to human health and agriculture. APAF offers a wide array of experimental analysis such as identifying drug interactions, measurement of protein expression changes in animal and human subjects. This permits the development of assay platforms to compare or differentiate between treated versus untreated, estimation of effective drug concentration ranges, half life and toxic dose monitoring and variations between pools of treated subjects. APAF has established good working relationships with international and national organisations in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology/life science markets in the service sector and technology development programs in conjunction with a number of life science companies such as GE Healthcare, QIAGEN and SGE Scientific.

Cancer Institute NSW
The Institute is a State Government Corporation that provides funding and a strategic framework for cancer research and interactions with industry for new therapeutics, devices and services for cancer. The Cancer Institute NSW has established and supported an extensive cancer trials network of 20 major hospitals which have over 5,000 patients currently on clinical trials. The Cancer Institute NSW has extensive cancer registries and provides detailed data on cancer treatment and outcomes for public use. The Cancer Institute NSW will facilitate research collaborations with pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies, suppliers of new medical devices or equipment and those utilising cancer data.

Centre for Complementary Medicine Research (CompleMED)
CompleMED is a leading Australian research centre for herbal and other complementary medicines at the University of Western Sydney. The Centre has a strong track record of successful clinical trials in herbal medicine, with special interests in women's health, gastroenterology, cardiovascular care, neurology and aged care. The Centre has particular expertise in dealing with the nuances of herbal medicine research, including quality definition, safety and efficacy studies, and related regulatory issues. CompleMED collaborates extensively with clinical specialists in public hospitals and has developed strong industry partnerships that sustain an active clinical trials program. The fruits of clinical research at CompleMED provide new options for disease management and prevention that can be directly integrated into mainstream health practices.
